Gita Scroll terms of use
Last updated: 28 October 2026
These terms are between you and Aditya Vora ("the developer") and cover the Gita Scroll app for iPhone and Android. By installing or using the app you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. On iPhone, Apple's standard licence agreement for apps (https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/) also applies, and if the two disagree, Apple's governs the licence and these terms govern everything else.
What the app is
Gita Scroll is a reading app. It shows verses of the Bhagavad Gita chosen by the topics you pick, with translations, meanings, stories, quizzes, chanting and recitation audio, and an optional feature called Gita Lock.
Not advice
Gita Scroll is not medical, psychological, legal or financial advice, and it is not a substitute for a teacher, a counsellor or a doctor. The "try today" lines are small suggestions to think about, nothing more. If you are in distress, please reach out to someone you trust or a helpline: Tele-MANAS 14416 in India, 988 in the US and Canada, or your local emergency number.
Where the text comes from
The Sanskrit verses come from public-domain sources. The translations, meanings, stories and explanations are original to Gita Scroll. The classical commentators' views are summarised from public-domain translations and shown side by side, not as the single correct reading. Each verse is marked "Draft, under review" until a human Sanskrit reviewer approves it, so some text may contain mistakes. You can report a problem from the verse screen. The developer will fix what it can, and corrections reach you in an app update.
Gita Scroll does not belong to or speak for any one tradition, teacher or organisation.
Your licence to use the app
You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use Gita Scroll on your own devices for your own reading. You may share a verse using the share screen. You may not copy the app, resell it, scrape its content in bulk, remove its notices, or reverse-engineer it except where the law lets you. The original translations, explanations, stories, quizzes, design and software are the developer's and are protected by copyright. The Sanskrit text itself is public domain.
Gita Lock
Gita Lock is optional and you control it. It shows a verse before apps you chose open.
- You turn it on and off yourself. You pick the apps. You give the system permissions it needs.
- It is a reading aid, not parental control or monitoring, and it is not a security feature. You can get past it on purpose, and it may not appear every time. Android phone makers sometimes stop background features to save battery. iOS decides when its Screen Time features run.
- It is free. It will not be put behind a paywall.
- It uses Screen Time on iPhone and Usage access and Display over other apps on Android. How your information is handled is in the privacy policy.
Don't use it in a way that stops you from reaching emergency services or other things you need. Turn it off in Me > Gita Lock if it gets in the way.
Gita Scroll Pro: subscriptions and purchases
The whole Gita, read-aloud of the meanings (using your phone's own voice), saving, sharing and Gita Lock are free. Gita Scroll Pro adds the Sanskrit voice chant of every verse (AI recitation by Vāgdhenu), Deep study, the chant coach, streak freeze, more share looks and chapter downloads. What Pro includes can change over time; what the free app includes today (the whole Gita, read-aloud of the meanings, saving, sharing and Gita Lock) will not be moved into Pro.
- Plans: monthly (auto-renewing), yearly (auto-renewing, with a 7-day free trial for new subscribers) and lifetime (a one-time purchase). Prices are shown in the app in your local currency before you buy.
- Billing: payment is taken by Apple or Google, not by the developer, when you confirm. Subscriptions renew automatically at the price shown unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Any unused part of a free trial ends when you subscribe.
- Cancel: on iPhone, Settings > your name > Subscriptions. On Android, Play Store > Profile > Payments and subscriptions. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Lifetime means Pro stays on for as long as the app is offered, on the Apple ID or Google account that bought it. It does not mean the developer promises to keep the app available forever.
- Refunds: Apple and Google decide refunds; request them through the store (reportaproblem.apple.com for Apple, Play Store > Order history for Google). The developer cannot refund store purchases directly.
- Restore: use Restore purchases on the paywall if Pro is missing on a new phone.
- If a subscription ends, nothing you saved or earned is deleted. You keep your saved verses, streak and Gita Lock settings; the Pro features turn off.
Using the app well
You agree not to use the app to break the law, to interfere with it or its servers, to try to get Pro without paying, or to misuse the share feature to harass anyone. The app has no accounts and no way to post publicly.
Updates, changes and availability
The app and the content may be updated. Features may change or be removed. Updates may arrive without a store release (for example text corrections). The developer may stop offering the app, with notice in the app where possible. Android 8.0 or later and iOS 16.4 or later are needed.
Warranty and liability
The app is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, the developer gives no warranty that it will be error-free, always available, or suitable for any particular purpose, and is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for more than the amount you paid for the app in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms removes rights you have under consumer law that cannot be removed.
Privacy
How data is handled is in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.
Changes to these terms
If the terms change in a way that matters, the date at the top moves and the app will tell you. Using the app after a change means you accept it.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Disputes go to the courts of Mumbai, India, except where your local consumer law gives you the right to go to a court where you live.
